Deliverability Engineer, Core Sending

This role sits at the heart of a fast-scaling email infrastructure platform responsible for delivering transactional and marketing emails at massive scale. You will help ensure that messages reliably reach inboxes by designing, operating, and improving systems that govern deliverability, reputation, and trust across sending networks. Working fully remotely with a globally distributed engineering team, you will collaborate closely with engineering, support, and anti-abuse specialists to transform complex deliverability challenges into scalable systems and actionable signals. You will play a key role in shaping how sending behavior is monitored, controlled, and optimized across multiple providers and customer segments. Accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for strengthening and evolving email deliverability systems that support high-volume sending infrastructure. You will translate deliverability expertise into scalable backend systems, policies, and operational tools that ensure message reliability and reputation protection.

• Design and improve systems for email deliverability, including IP reputation, domain reputation, authentication, and bounce classification
• Build and maintain frameworks for monitoring sending behavior, including dashboards, metrics, and alerting systems
• Develop and optimize IP warmup strategies, shared and dedicated IP pools, and traffic segmentation logic
• Investigate and resolve deliverability issues such as spam-foldering, blocklisting, deferrals, and provider-specific delivery failures
• Collaborate with engineering and Trust & Safety teams to prevent abuse and enforce sending policies
• Convert ambiguous deliverability signals into structured systems, runbooks, and automated enforcement mechanisms
• Support incident response for critical delivery disruptions and ensure system resilience and observability

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in email deliverability or high-volume messaging systems, with the ability to turn complex operational signals into structured engineering solutions. You combine technical depth with strong communication skills and ownership mindset.

• Proven experience in email deliverability, anti-abuse systems, mail operations, or high-scale messaging infrastructure
• Strong understanding of IP and domain reputation, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounce handling, complaints, suppressions, and warmup strategies
• Experience diagnosing deliverability issues across major mailbox providers and interpreting delivery signals
• Ability to design metrics, dashboards, policies, and systems from loosely defined deliverability challenges
• Familiarity with tools such as Google Postmaster Tools, Microsoft SNDS/JMRP, feedback loops, and blocklist monitoring
• Experience working with engineering, support, and customer-facing teams in cross-functional environments
• Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and a high level of ownership and autonomy
• Bonus: experience with shared/dedicated IP pools, deliverability recovery incidents, or building automated enforcement systems
