Engenheiro de Software Sr. (Java)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engenheiro de Software Sr. (Java) based in Brazil.

As a Senior Java Software Engineer, you’ll design, build, and operate backend services that support critical digital financial products at scale.
You’ll work extensively with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, messaging, cloud infrastructure, and distributed architectures.
The role combines hands-on development with architectural decision-making, technical leadership, and production ownership.
You’ll help create resilient, highly available services while continuously improving quality, performance, observability, and security.
Modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, specification-driven development, automation, and software agents, are an important part of the environment.
You’ll collaborate closely with Platform, SRE, and Security teams to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and well governed.

Accountabilities

• Develop and maintain production-grade APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, evaluating technical trade-offs and selecting appropriate solutions based on business and engineering requirements.
• Design and implement asynchronous integrations and ensure consistency across transactional workflows.
• Instrument, monitor, operate, and continuously improve services running in production.
• Use AI-powered software development tools responsibly, ensuring code quality, security, maintainability, and adherence to engineering best practices.
• Lead code reviews and provide technical guidance and support to other engineers.
• Assess the impact, risks, and dependencies associated with proposed changes before implementation.
• Define and monitor metrics related to service quality, performance, availability, and reliability.
• Partner with Platform, SRE, and Security teams to build scalable, resilient, secure, and governed solutions.
• Contribute to modern software engineering practices, including Spec-Driven Development, development lifecycle automation, and the use of software agents.
• Support initiatives that improve engineering standards, technical documentation, testing, observability, and operational reliability.
• Help define and evolve technical solutions for distributed, high-performance, and business-critical systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Strong professional experience developing backend applications with Java and Spring Boot in production environments.
• Solid experience with microservices, REST APIs, and relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, or similar solutions.
• Experience with cloud computing and containerized environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience implementing automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, including data modeling, transactions, and query optimization.
• Familiarity with non-relational databases such as Redis, DynamoDB, and MongoDB.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or comparable technologies.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Familiarity with distributed architectures designed for resilience, scalability, and high performance.
• Strong understanding of software quality practices, including security, observability, testing, and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with modern engineering practices such as software agents, Spec-Driven Development, and AI-assisted software development.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and contributing to architectural solution definition.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate risks, dependencies, and technical trade-offs.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, particularly when working with multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or financial services is a strong advantage.
• Experience with high-volume, high-availability systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of distributed data processing and batch workloads is advantageous.
• Experience designing architectures for critical or large-scale platforms is a plus.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Terraform is desirable.
• Knowledge of observability practices and event-driven architecture is an advantage.
