Insurance Verification Specialist

In this role, you will support a fast-paced U.S.-based medical practice by ensuring that insurance coverage is accurately verified and patients are financially prepared before their appointments. You will play a key operational role in reducing delays, denials, and scheduling issues by handling eligibility checks, authorizations, and referrals with precision. The position requires close coordination with clinical and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient flow and readiness. You will work in a structured but dynamic healthcare environment where accuracy and speed are essential. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented who enjoys problem-solving within healthcare administration. Your work will directly contribute to improving patient experience and operational efficiency across the practice.
Accountabilities:
- Perform insurance eligibility and benefits verification for next-day patients across multiple insurance carriers.
- Confirm active coverage and accurately calculate patient financial responsibility, including copays, deductibles, and coinsurance.
- Request and obtain referrals and prior authorizations from insurance providers and primary care physicians as required.
- Navigate insurance portals and healthcare platforms to retrieve and validate coverage information efficiently.
- Collect payments for telehealth or applicable patient services when needed.
- Communicate proactively with internal teams to ensure patient readiness and prevent delays, denials, or appointment cancellations.
- Maintain accurate records and support administrative workflows related to insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Collaborate with fellow insurance verification specialists and on-site staff to ensure consistent operational alignment.
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in insurance verification within a medical office or healthcare setting.
- Strong experience handling referrals and prior authorization processes.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, including CPT codes.
- Hands-on experience using insurance portals, payer systems, and verification platforms.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage daily deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a professional and customer-focused approach.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving processes and healthcare requirements.
- Preferred: experience working with rheumatology practices or similar specialties.
- Preferred: familiarity with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and commercial insurance plans.
- Preferred: bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Comfortable working remotely with U.S.-based healthcare teams and systems.
