As a Backend Engineer within the Custody team, you will help build secure, reliable, and scalable systems that enable institutions to interact with digital assets safely.

Accountabilities:

The Member of Technical Staff, Custody (Backend Engineer) will design, develop, and maintain secure backend systems while collaborating across engineering teams to deliver reliable digital asset solutions.

• Participate in the design, implementation, testing, documentation, and maintenance of custody-related systems and services.
• Build scalable and resilient backend services capable of handling high volumes of transactions and complex workflows.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code following engineering standards and best practices.
• Review code, provide constructive feedback, and help improve engineering quality across the team.
• Analyze complex and ambiguous technical challenges, developing practical and elegant solutions.
• Break down large initiatives into actionable tasks, estimate scope, evaluate trade-offs, and drive projects from concept through delivery.
• Contribute to reducing technical debt by promoting strong testing practices, automation, and reliable engineering processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve problems and ensure alignment with broader technical objectives.
• Share knowledge across teams and help prevent knowledge gaps or single points of failure.
• Mentor and support other engineers by sharing technical expertise and encouraging continuous learning.
• Communicate effectively with engineers and stakeholders across different disciplines to build strong working relationships.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a skilled backend engineer with experience building distributed systems and a passion for creating secure, high-quality software solutions.

• Proven experience developing complex distributed systems in production environments.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including knowledge of concurrency, algorithms, and data structures.
• Experience designing and building resilient backend services that operate reliably at scale.
• Strong understanding of software development practices, code quality, testing strategies, and maintainable architecture.
• Experience with backend programming languages; experience with Go is preferred, though strong engineering skills across languages are valued.
• Ability to independently drive projects, manage technical complexity, and make sound engineering decisions.
• Strong collaboration skills with a team-oriented mindset and interest in mentoring and learning from others.
• Focus on delivering customer value and business impact rather than purely technical solutions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience with applied cryptography or security-focused engineering.
• Interest in blockchain technologies, digital assets, and emerging financial infrastructure.
• Experience designing and implementing GraphQL or gRPC APIs.
• Background working in financial services or highly regulated environments.
• Familiarity with blockchain protocols and technical research.
