Senior Backend Architect

This role is designed for a highly experienced backend engineering leader who can take full ownership of system architecture and backend strategy in a fast-moving, AI-augmented development environment. You will be responsible for designing scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems that support complex product needs across a distributed microservices ecosystem. The position goes beyond implementation, requiring strong architectural judgment, the ability to define technical direction, and the confidence to make independent engineering decisions. You will work in a lean, high-ownership team where speed and quality must coexist, leveraging AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous engineering standards. This is a role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys solving system-level challenges, and can translate product vision into robust technical solutions. The environment is remote, highly collaborative, and aligned with international time zones, with a strong focus on accountability and execution excellence.

Accountabilities:

• Design, own, and evolve backend systems using NestJS and TypeScript, from architecture to production deployment.
• Lead technical architecture decisions with a strong focus on scalability, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
• Build and maintain GraphQL APIs within a distributed microservices architecture.
• Own Postgres database design, optimization, and long-term reliability strategies.
• Translate ambiguous product requirements into clear, scalable technical solutions.
• Define technical direction and establish engineering best practices across teams.
• Set and enforce code quality standards, including AI-generated and human-written code.
• Contribute to system design, infrastructure decisions, testing strategies, and developer productivity improvements.
• Operate effectively in an AI-first development workflow while ensuring strong engineering rigor.

Requirements:

• Extensive experience in backend engineering at Lead Engineer or Architect level.
• Strong expertise in NestJS, TypeScript, and modern backend architecture patterns.
• Deep experience with GraphQL APIs and microservices-based systems.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, performance tuning, and reliability.
• Proven ability to make independent architectural decisions in complex systems.
• Experience designing scalable, production-grade distributed systems.
• Strong systems thinking with the ability to work through ambiguity and define structure.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows is highly valued.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-accountability environments.
