Senior Shopify Backend Developer

This role is focused on building and scaling high-performance Shopify-based eCommerce platforms that power complex, high-traffic digital retail experiences. You will play a key part in designing robust backend systems, developing custom Shopify applications, and integrating enterprise-grade tools that support end-to-end commerce operations. Working in a distributed, international environment, you will collaborate closely with product, UX, frontend, and DevOps teams to deliver seamless and scalable solutions. The position requires strong technical ownership, with a focus on performance, reliability, and secure transactions at scale. You will contribute directly to the evolution of modern commerce architectures, including headless and composable ecosystems. This is a high-impact role where engineering quality directly influences conversion, customer experience, and business growth.

Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems and Shopify solutions that support enterprise-level eCommerce operations.

• Develop and maintain custom Shopify applications, backend services, and APIs supporting complex commerce workflows.
• Implement and extend Shopify Plus capabilities, including checkout customization, order management, and admin functionality.
• Build and manage integrations with ERP, CRM, CDP, marketing tools, payment systems, and logistics platforms.
• Design and implement scalable backend architectures using Node.js, Ruby, or similar technologies.
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability for high-volume transactional environments.
• Ensure compliance with security standards, data protection requirements, and PCI regulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, product managers, QA, and DevOps.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, and technical documentation.
• Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and continuous system improvements.

Requirements:
This role requires extensive backend engineering experience with strong expertise in Shopify ecosystems and enterprise integrations.

• 10+ years of experience in backend or full-stack development.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with Shopify or Shopify Plus backend development.
• Strong expertise with Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront, GraphQL, REST).
• Proven experience building custom Shopify apps (public and private).
• Solid knowledge of webhooks, event-driven architectures, and scalable backend systems.
• Experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP (SAP, NetSuite), CRM, CDP, and marketing platforms.
• Strong understanding of API design, database modeling, and integration patterns.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows.
• Ability to work aligned with US time zones and communicate effectively in English.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in distributed, cross-functional teams.
