Senior Software Engineer - IAM

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - IAM based in Brazil.

This role is part of a security-focused engineering team responsible for building and scaling critical identity and access management systems.
You will design and develop platforms that protect digital resources while enabling secure and seamless experiences for users and services.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Software Engineer - IAM will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable identity and access management solutions that serve as the foundation for secure digital operations. This role combines deep software engineering expertise with security knowledge, requiring ownership across the full development lifecycle and active collaboration with multiple teams.

• Design, build, and scale centralized Authentication (AuthN) and Authorization (AuthZ) platforms supporting critical business systems.
• Solve complex engineering challenges related to scalability, resilience, fault tolerance, availability, and low-latency authentication flows.
• Develop secure and reliable APIs and services that enable user-to-service and service-to-service communication.
• Own the complete software development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and security stakeholders to establish secure and efficient development practices.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decisions while promoting engineering excellence.
• Mentor other software engineers by sharing knowledge, improving technical practices, and supporting team growth.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement improvements to prevent recurring issues.
• Contribute to operational excellence by improving observability, performance, and reliability of IAM services.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a senior software engineer with strong experience in identity and access management, distributed systems, and secure software development. You should be comfortable working on high-impact platforms where security, performance, and scalability are key priorities.

• Strong knowledge of IAM concepts, authentication and authorization protocols, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, SCIM, JWT, RBAC, and ABAC.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable software systems using languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
• Experience designing software architectures from the ground up and building secure RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, automated testing, deployment practices, and technical documentation.
• Experience with database design, system evolution, monitoring, observability, and performance analysis.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems with a structured, analytical, and impact-driven approach.
• Experience working with Agile development methodologies.
• Fluency in Portuguese and advanced English, including the ability to communicate through technical documentation, tools, and collaboration with international teams.
• Experience designing or migrating centralized Identity Providers (IdP) or fine-grained authorization systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP and their IAM/security services is a plus.
• Understanding of service-to-service authentication concepts, including workload identity, mTLS, and SPIFFE/SPIRE, is a plus.
• Experience mentoring software engineers is a plus.
• Experience optimizing highly concurrent, distributed, and latency-sensitive systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and security automation practices is a plus.
