Sr. Finance Systems Analyst

This role sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and clinical project delivery, focusing on strengthening financial oversight across Clinical Solutions portfolios.
You will act as a key business partner, ensuring accurate forecasting, budget governance, and financial performance tracking across multiple clinical trial projects.
The position plays a critical role in identifying financial risks, improving cost control, and enhancing decision-making for operational leaders.
You will work closely with project finance, clinical operations, and leadership teams in a highly matrixed and fast-paced environment.
A strong emphasis is placed on data-driven insights, KPI development, and translating complex financial information into clear executive-level narratives.
The role also involves building scalable dashboards and financial models using Excel and Power BI to support portfolio visibility and governance.
Overall, this is a high-impact role supporting the financial integrity and strategic execution of clinical trial portfolios.
Accountabilities:
- Own portfolio-level financial analysis for Clinical Solutions, including budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis, and risk identification across clinical trial portfolios.
- Oversee financial performance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with internal controls, governance standards, and best practices.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis (actuals vs. budget vs. forecast) to identify drivers such as scope changes, inefficiencies, and financial risks.
- Support project finance teams in maintaining accurate, consistent, and reliable data feeding into portfolio-level reporting.
- Monitor budget consumption, earned value indicators, milestone progress, and change orders across active clinical trials.
- Develop and maintain trial operations KPIs linking operational performance to financial outcomes (e.g., enrollment vs. burn rate, milestones vs. revenue).
- Build dashboards and reporting tools in Excel and Power BI to support executive reporting and portfolio governance.
- Deliver clear, actionable financial insights and presentations for senior leaders and operational stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, forecasting accuracy, and reporting standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, Project Management, Data Management, and Finance teams.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives requested by leadership teams.
- Bachelorβs degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field, with 5β8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong background in project finance, FP&A, or operational finance, ideally within a CRO or clinical research environment.
- Proven experience managing or analyzing clinical trial portfolios and complex project financial structures.
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, scenario analysis, and handling large datasets.
- Working knowledge of Power BI or similar data visualization tools.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial financial drivers, project lifecycles, and contract/budget structures.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and narratives.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience engaging with senior leadership.
- Executive presence and confidence in influencing operational and financial decision-making.
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to balance tactical execution and strategic thinking.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
