Tech Lead, Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Tech Lead, Software Engineer based in Brazil.

This role serves as the technical anchor for a growing engineering organization, combining hands-on software development with architecture and team leadership. You will shape the technical direction of a modern full-stack platform supporting cyber risk and insurance workflows. The position offers broad ownership across APIs, data models, infrastructure, security, integrations, and AI-powered capabilities. You will work closely with technology, product, underwriting, and actuarial leaders to translate complex business needs into scalable solutions. A key focus will be building reliable systems and intelligent automation that improve how cyber risk is assessed and managed. With significant influence over engineering standards and platform evolution, you will help create the technical foundation for long-term growth.

Accountabilities:

• Own architectural decisions across the platform, covering API design, data modeling, infrastructure, security, third-party integrations, and long-term system scalability.
• Define and continuously improve engineering standards around code quality, testing, documentation, secure development, and practices aligned with security and compliance requirements.
• Lead technical scoping, risk assessment, estimation, and architectural planning for major product initiatives, providing leadership with clear and realistic technical assessments.
• Drive the development of AI-powered capabilities and intelligent automation that enhance underwriting workflows and improve cyber risk assessment.
• Identify and address technical debt while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop senior and mid-level engineers through coaching, code reviews, technical discussions, and hands-on pairing.
• Establish a culture of high engineering standards, accountability, psychological safety, continuous learning, and strong technical ownership.
• Act as the primary technical partner for underwriting, actuarial, and product leadership, translating complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Partner with the CTO on technical strategy, roadmap priorities, architecture, and plans for future platform growth.
• Lead engineering contributions to security and compliance initiatives, ensuring strong data integrity, access control, and secure engineering practices.
• Manage relationships with external data providers and risk analytics platforms, ensuring reliable integrations, consistent data quality, and resilient data flows.
• Lead the design and delivery of production-grade capabilities across core insurance workflows, including quoting, policy management, broker processes, and claims integrations.
• Architect and maintain reliable, observable data pipelines that support risk assessment, analytics, and actuarial modeling.
• Own CI/CD infrastructure, deployment reliability, monitoring, and platform observability in collaboration with engineering leadership.
• Ensure the platform can scale securely as product capabilities, user volume, integrations, and business complexity grow.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years operating in a lead, principal, or comparable technical leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex production systems throughout their lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through deployment, scaling, reliability, and long-term maintenance.
• Expert understanding of software engineering principles, including clean code, SOLID principles, design patterns, distributed systems, and API-first architecture.
• Proven ability to make significant architectural decisions and communicate technical strategy clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and business leaders.
• Strong leadership experience with the ability to mentor, develop, and retain high-performing engineering teams through technical coaching, hiring, and cultural leadership.
• Security-conscious engineering mindset, with experience embedding data integrity, access control, secure design, and compliance considerations into systems from the beginning.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineering, product, underwriting, actuarial, and executive audiences.
• Strong intellectual curiosity and interest in the intersection of technology, data, and risk, with the ability to understand business challenges beyond the underlying codebase.
• Professional experience with AWS, Docker, Apache Airflow, Neo4j, GraphQL, CDNs, and Git-based version control practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Experience in insurance, fintech, or another regulated industry is advantageous.
• Familiarity with AI/ML integrations, LLM APIs, or intelligent automation embedded within business workflows is a plus.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, webhooks, and third-party data integrations is beneficial.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts such as vulnerability scanning, threat intelligence, and security scoring is advantageous.
• Exposure to SOC 2, ISO 27001, or comparable compliance frameworks as an active engineering contributor is a plus.
• Previous experience in a startup or high-growth technology environment in a lead or principal role is beneficial.
• Familiarity with insurance policy administration systems or broker-facing platforms is an advantage.
