Energy Analyst

Position Overview:
This role is a mid-level position within Edison’s Data & Settlement Services team. The primary goal for this team is to gain efficiencies through process development and standardization for client service delivery while maintaining the highest level of accuracy, timeliness and professionalism. This role will provide analytical support to natural gas and electricity energy managers in Edison’s Energy Supply Advisory service line.
The primary difference between analyst and senior analyst is the overall scope of the position – 1) functions being performed, 2) direction received from others, 3) how much freedom the position has to make decisions and take action, 4) the ability to proactively avoid negative issues/risks for our clients/company and reactively resolve issues/risks with reduced or zero negative impact, 5) internal & external communication skills (verbal, written, presentation), 6) demonstrating initiative to properly and effectively take independent action, 7) job knowledge & experience, 8) quality of work (delivered with professionalism).
Job Requirements:
• Data Management & Maintenance (~30% of time)
o Thoroughly analyze and validate key customer metrics across multiple data management systems to ensure accuracy.
o Work directly with processing and payables partners to address and resolve data integrity issues.
o Facilitate one-off customer specific utility payables process and coordinate with internal departments.
• Reporting (~20% of time)
o Oversee, structure, and lead data analysis to inform insights and decision-making.
o Type of reports include, but are not limited to cost and consumption, marked-to-market, budgets, unit cost, savings trackers, supplier summaries, missing invoices, etc.
• Invoice Audits & Rate Modeling (~30% of time)
o Use technology to identify potential errors and/or anomalies and verify data entry accuracy.
o When required, curate rate models for in-depth analysis.
• Tariff Analysis (~10% of time)
o Evaluate feasibility to switch to a more favorable utility rate schedule, identify incentives and uncover opportunities to opt-in or opt-out of various charges.
• Natural Gas Operations Support (~10% of time)
o Execute and manage daily/monthly nominations, confirmations, imbalances and other similar activities related to the purchase and sale of natural gas on various natural gas pipelines.
o Gain and apply a thorough understanding of pipeline and Local Distribution Company (LDC) transportation contracts, balancing provisions, and nominate on the timely movement of natural gas appropriately based upon contract entitlements, receipt and delivery points, and capacity avoiding any overrun or other unforeseen incremental transportation charges.
o Track and interpret pipeline curtailments, maintenance, and other operational issues to aide in the efficiency and reliability of transporting natural gas.
o Communicate with pipeline representatives as needed and advise the Energy Advisor for the account on potential impacts and alternative solutions.
o Communicate and collaborate daily with suppliers, customers and Energy Advisors regarding physical positions and the daily movement of natural gas.
• Special Projects/ah-hoc tasks
Desired Background:
• Bachelor’s Degree required (Business, Finance, Accounting, Sustainability or Engineering preferred)
• 3+ years of energy market experience at any of the following: end-user organization in an energy-procurement role, energy utility, energy supplier or energy consulting firm
• Work experience in consultancy / professional services preferred
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI), and ability to perform data analysis in Microsoft Excel is required
Required Skills:
• Familiarity with either the North American energy power or natural gas markets, or both • Exceptional attention to detail • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
