Their mission is to move business teams from spending time on manual outputs to focusing on strategic outcomes. They eliminate "swivel chair" work by connecting siloed SaaS applications and unlocking billions of dollars in value trapped in disparate systems.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced n8n Tech Lead to guide their automation engineering team in building enterprise-grade workflow solutions.
As the technical authority for automation, you’ll define architecture, establish engineering standards, and mentor engineers while remaining deeply hands-on with complex workflow and system integrations.

This is a technical leadership role centered on influence, architecture, and engineering excellence — not traditional people management. You’ll lead through code, architectural clarity, and deep collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

Define and evolve the architecture for n8n automation platform.
Set the technical roadmap for workflow automation and evaluate new n8n capabilities.
Lead design reviews for complex orchestrations and integrations.
Establish engineering standards, conventions, and best practices.
Research and implement new technologies to extend automation capabilities.

Team Technical Guidance

Conduct code reviews and mentor engineers on advanced automation patterns.
Provide direct hands-on guidance through pair programming and problem-solving.
Lead technical deep dives, workshops, and onboarding for new engineers.
Champion knowledge sharing and team-wide technical development.

Advanced Workflow Development

Design and build sophisticated, multi-system workflows serving as reference implementations.
Develop reusable custom nodes and TypeScript/JavaScript functions.
Build internal frameworks and libraries to accelerate workflow development.
Optimize performance, scalability, and error-handling in high-volume automation.
Prototype and validate new automation capabilities through POCs.

Platform Engineering & Infrastructure

Lead evolution of n8n infrastructure — scaling, monitoring, and reliability improvements.
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for workflow observability.
Define security standards for credentials, API access, and data protection.
Establish performance benchmarks and optimization strategies for enterprise workloads.

Technical Problem-Solving

Serve as final escalation point for complex workflow or integration issues.
Lead root cause analysis for production incidents and long-term fixes.
Solve advanced integration challenges involving legacy or custom systems.
Identify and address technical debt within automation infrastructure.

Business Partnership (Technical Focus)

Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Advise stakeholders on technical feasibility, tradeoffs, and design decisions.
Ensure comprehensive documentation and technical clarity across teams.
Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to mixed audiences.

Requirements

Required Technical Skills

4+ years of hands-on experience with n8n or similar workflow automation platforms.
Advanced proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
Experience designing multi-system orchestrations, branching logic, and reusable components.
Strong understanding of custom node development, API integration, and workflow optimization.
Expertise in RESTful API design, authentication flows (OAuth2, SAML), and webhook architectures.
Backend and infrastructure proficiency (AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, CI/CD pipelines).
Experience with observability tools (Grafana, DataDog, Prometheus).
Familiarity with enterprise SaaS integrations (Salesforce, SAP, NetSuite, Yardi).

Required Leadership Capabilities

Proven technical mentorship and architecture leadership experience.
Strong ability to decompose complex problems into clear, actionable components.
Advocate for code quality, documentation, and scalable system design.
Collaborative leadership style driven by technical influence.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Automation Engineer.
Open-source contributions to n8n or related automation frameworks.
Experience with multiple automation tools (Zapier, Make, Temporal, Airflow).
Industry experience in real estate, finance, or enterprise SaaS.
Strong system design and technical writing skills.
Certifications in AWS, Kubernetes, or similar advanced infrastructure credentials.
